After much ado, I finally managed to pick her up and call the number listed on her collar. A guy came and picked her up like one minute later which was such a bummer because she was very cuddly. The cat's name was Aubrey by the way. Or Audrey. Anyway, ever since my brief time with Aubdrey, all I can think about is how much a want a cat. Yes, I am severely allergic, however I think I could suck it up. Don't you think a furry friend would be worth it???? Another thing I decided is that I need an iphone so I can look up things like how to get places right exactly when I want to go to them, or to make sure I'm right in telling my friends that chorizo is sausage and not rice (which i was). I think people with iphones live more spontaneous and informed lives.

Also, I kind of miss home recently, which is a weird thing because I don't get homesick ever. C'est la vie, i s'pose.

Today I cleaned my room which was a good thing -- now there's more room for me when I hang out on the floor.

Santa, for Christmas I want to stop being allergic to things like animals, plants, l'école. I also want a personal esthetician that can give me facials daily. Oh and after I get unallergic to everything, I want at least 1 cat. Yeeeaaaahhh.

NYSee you later

Well, it's already time to depart from the Empire State. I can sum up July in New York in four words: sweaty, yummy, sparkly, smelly. I guess these words probably describe New York all the time, not just July… but nonetheless.
We stepped out of the JFK and were instantly overcome with the balmy, muggy climate. My hair got pouffy. It was great. There wasn't one picture we took that I didn't look like I'd just exited a sauna. The air conditioning most everywhere came from little cooling boxes in windows; museums and restaurants seemed to be the only escape from the heat.
The food was delicious--no doubt about it. I'd hate to even get an estimate of all the calories we so willingly consumed. Our watering taste buds were graced with cupcakes from three different bakeries, gelato, monstrous chocolate sundaes and lava cakes, cookies the size of small loaves of bread, hamburgers, pasta, chicken, salad, french toast, etc, etc, etc. And of course, every morsel was delightful. The motto of the trip was "we're in New York, why skip dessert?"
I use sparkly to describe all the clothes, purses, shoes, and jewelry that lined the storefronts of dozens of boutiques and shops. Yes, everything had a price tag…. but our other motto was "we're in New York, we can splurge". Things just have a little extra something special about them here.
Smelly. Every few steps brought a new scent coming from some kind of food, animal, plant, car, or (unfortunately) person. Street vendors sold shish-kebobs and fried meat on corners. This stuff always smelled good when we were hungry, but once we were full it was kind of revolting. Farmers markets gushed scents of ripe fruits. But the stuff these people were selling wasn't the only thing that filled our noses, the people themselves offered their own fragrance. There are so many different ethnicities and foreigners in New York and it seemed as though many of them forgot deodorant. Lots of BO. Central Park always smelled fresh and nature-y, and occasionally a bit like pot. And lingering wisps of tobacco were ever-present. The trip was exhilarating. I wouldn't change any part of it. New York, this is not the last you'll see of me.

New.

So, I have a short ponytail. It's stubby and weird and short-ponytail-ish. It's kind of hard for me to handle sometimes. But overall, I like having short hair. I feel really sassy. I like to imagine myself as some kind classy, liberal woman from the 1920's that was a suffrage activist who chopped her hair off and felt liberated from social restriction. Except now it's 2010 and we can all vote and being a girl with short hair isn't much of a statement. But still.

Why does getting a haircut make me feel so defiant all the sudden?

In other news, I am going to New York tomorrow and I couldn't be more excited.

PS check out this stealth cat....
